New Apprenticeship Campaign 'Fire It Up' launches

Leading employers have woken up to the benefits apprenticeships bring to their workplaces, Education Secretary Damian Hinds has said, with top firms including Marks & Spencer and Lloyds Banking Group taking on thousands of apprentices on the Government’s new, higher quality apprenticeship programmes.

 

At a time when many young people will be considering their futures, the Education Secretary wants parents, schools and colleges to make sure apprenticeships are being promoted alongside more traditional academic routes.

 

So, the Government is launching a new campaign to promote apprenticeships among young people, parents and employers, whilst confirming that it will write to the largest school trusts who have not published information on their website about how they will ensure providers of vocational education are able talk to pupils in their schools.

Nationally renowned speakers announced for the HfL Secondary Mathematics Conference 2019

Herts for Learning (HfL) is excited to announce the full programme of their Secondary Mathematics conference, taking place later this term.

 

The conference entitled Intelligent Practice to Raise Student Achievement is taking place on Monday 18th March 2019 and will include speakers from AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, Atlas Teaching School and Advanced Mathematics Support Programme.

 

Craig Barton, renowned mathematics educator and author, and Andrew Taylor, Head of Curriculum for Mathematics, AQA, will deliver the keynote address and set the theme for the day.

 

Speaking about the conference, William Thallon, Teaching and Learning Adviser – Mathematics at Herts for Learning said: 

“The HfL Secondary mathematics team are extremely excited to be hosting this conference and are fortunate that such an expert gathering of speakers have agreed to contribute to this day. It promises to be an inspirational conference that will have a telling impact on students’ learning."

Spellbrook Primary School children in Bishop's Stortford complete first term of mini police scheme

A group of school children have completed their first term of Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Mini Police scheme.

 

Pupils of Spellbrook Primary School near Bishop’s Stortford have given their support to the force by participating in a number of community events. 

Among the activities, pupils have helped officers to educate motorists about driving safely, staying safe online and anti-social behaviour.

 

The programme, for children between nine and 11, originated in Durham and aims to build trust with communities, promote responsible citizenship and help young people establish an interest and understanding in policing and community safety.
